Epithelial cell memory of inflammation

In our study of chromatin dynamics in tumor initiation, we have found - surprisingly - that the histologically normal pancreas following regeneration after injury is epigenetically altered. In other words, chromatin modifications and architecture never revert back to normal.

We have recently described our understanding the spatiotemporal dynamics of this 'memory', the essential mechanisms for its establishment, and the scope for targeting this memory as a novel cancer prevention strategy.
